what I love about the festive season

by - 23 December

In Singapore and our constant tropical weather, it's hard to enjoy the festive season as you would in a place where winter exists. However, having grown up and been through every single Christmas on our little island, I've come to love many things about celebrating Christmas and enjoying its festivities over here.

#1. Christmas Wonderland

It's my second year visiting the lights and I must say, even though everything was mostly the same, I was still mesmerised by everything there. It truly brings out the festive mood and the magic of this time of the year. I loved not just the structures that were around, but also the little huts that sell hand made goodies, the variety of food available (giving me real Perth food festival vibes), as well as the carnival games. My favourite part has got to be when the "snow" falls, and it is as though time has stopped for just a while. I feel the spirit of Christmas resonating amongst everyone and in my opinion, this is the place to go if you want to feel as though you've been transported to a different world altogether.

#2. Lights along Orchard Road

This probably wouldn't come as a surprise either since it's a tradition to see the Christmas decoration and lights along our famous stretch. Every year brings a little something different with all the malls having unique themes to their decorations. Contrasting between day and night, it would be a day and night well spent to see the difference in the way they light up Orchard Road.

#3. Festive Parties

This has got to be one of my favourite parts. Luckily enough we've been able to celebrate Christmas every year with a party alongside family and friends. It's always fun to get together, but getting together on during the holidays just adds a little bit of sparkle to seeing each other. It's also a good time to catch up and do some gift exchanging - which not gonna lie, is my favourite part.

#4. Christmas Shopping

The spirit of Christmas is gift giving; and so what's more adequate than doing some Christmas shopping? There's so much more fun picking out something for someone else and hunting for specific things that you think the other party would like. I love it when the person I'm giving the gift to opens what I got and seeing the brightest smile appear on their faces. It's really the thought that counts this time of year and being able to give with an open heart really elevates my spirit.

I've only got four things on this list but I'm sure there are many more that I have yet to include. It's 2 days till Christmas and boy am I excited!

From me to you,

Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year x
